Model United Nation

This is the most recent activity that I have taken on. I joined because i wanted to further develop my debating skills and also my skills in retrieving information of a case study. I also wanted to learn about a various amount of world issues and I wanted to see if I have what it takes to find "peaceful" or effective solutions to these problems.
I have learnt a lot in this activity, firstly I learnt how to have a clean discussion a debate instead of having an argument which would just raise more issues. It pushed me to my limit of thinking because in UN debates you have to be as peaceful to all sides rather than just your own. The solutions also have to be affective as possible and as less cost affective as possible.
This activity help me understand the problems that the UN may have when they try to find solutions.
In the activity we also learn that not everything the UN do is correct and a lot of the time doesn't benefit in the long term, this just creates more issues in the future.
Because I've had experience in public speaking the task of presenting the issue was fairly easy for me but when it came to debating my problems were clear. It was very difficult for me to learn how to debate effectively and put down my opinion without having to be aggressive about it. So this also taught me how to be patient and how to listen so that i can counter the argument presented to me by the other debaters.

Cooking

I am a boarder at the Regent's school, this is because my parents live in Saudi Arabia. I frequently go back there to see them and spend time with them fore I only see them 2 or 3 times a year. In my winter 2010-2011 break I spent lots of time with my mother.
My mother is a cook and she owns her own Thai Takeaway, she also has cooking classes. My mum invited me to join this cooking class so that i could help her with her takeaway when she has a large amount of costumers at one time. I took place in this class and I did 1 or 2 hours a day for 2 weeks. She is a professional and she has a license which she had earned in Thailand many years ago.
Cooking has always been my mothers dream and she has achieved it. She is very happy with what she does no matter how much she makes. This inspired me to follow my own dream rather than doing what people tell me to do. So now because of my mother I am following a path that I know I will enjoy.
Doing this activity with my mother has taught me many new skills in cooking and how to handle food with care. i also learnt that cleanliness and safety was a key point that had to be used. i learnt how to prepare dishes and how to talk to customers politely. this will benefit me in the future when i need to cook my own food and if i take part in a business where communicating customers is frequent. this also benefited my mother since her work load is very tiresome and i helped her in the kitchen therefore her workload individually was reduced. i also helped her to answer the phone to customers whilst she could carry on preparing food for others in line. i also grew my relationship with my mother since we hardly see each other this helped to build on my relationship skills and this may also benefit me in the future if i need to create strong relations with a business parter or any other sort of partners.

Croston Walk

This was a long charity walk in which Mr Croston created. His walk was more like a marathon whereas the students only had to walk 15km. this fund raiser helped Mr Croston build a better home for the orphans he takes care of in Lamphun, Chaing Mai.
The walk was a test of determination, the determination of spending your time to help children in need. In the present there are countless charities where money is just dropped in a box with a label on it. this may be helping the charity but it doesn't show how far you would go to help the children, and in the croston walk it is how far you go that matters, literally.
no skills were learnt in this event but awareness was raised to me and hopefully all of my classmates.

Blood Brothers (School Production)

Blood Brothers was a very important part of my life at the Regent's. It taught me a various amount of new skills and also inspired me into what i wanted to be in the future. Acting on stage was a very difficult task for me and on top of that i was nominated by the directors to be the main role along with my school mate Ralph. Ralph and I were the twins that the play was based on, we had to characterize and "be" our roles to study each other.
The very hardest skill i had to learn was to stay in character all the time on and off stage. i also had to learn how to improvise at times when there were slight errors for example somebody forgetting a line. I learnt many focus techniques but the issue was that these techniques only suited the theater instead of on other aspects.
The most important skill I learnt was confidence in front of crowds. Now with this new skill i can give public speeches and many more public things. Confidence also boosted my status for myself this is because I had now become less afraid of speaking out. This skill is very beneficial in school debate situations but also outside the class. Before I had this skill i would keep many things from my parents, this includes my opinions and thoughts on things, it also included my feelings and emotions. Without this skill it would be very hard for me to cope with my emotions and therefore i definatly would call this the most important skill ive learnt from theater.
